Another show which is perhaps remembered more fondly for it's package than for it's content, Inner Sanctum was the show where host Raymond (Johnson) invited you in through the creaking door, that most evocative of creepy sound effects. So vivid was that drawn-out squeak sound that Inner Sanctum producer Hyman Brown revived it 30 years later with E.G. Marshall on the CBS Radio Mystery Theater.
After the the door came Raymond with his ghoulish puns, an incongruous visit with Mary, the nice lady who touted Lipton tea, and then 25 minutes of spooky mayhem, before the door creaked shut.
