"On King! On, you Huskies!" To the strains of the Donna Diana Overture, this Mountie trekked across Canada, much like the Lone Ranger trekked across the American Southwest. No coincidence -- both shows were created by George Trendle of WXYZ Detroit, both to the same successful formula -- the strong, law-abiding hero; the animal sidekick; the exotic location; public-domain classical music. Sergeant Preston merely lacked a Tonto to make the parallels complete.
