The cast in a painful publicity pose "Buck Rogers in the 25th Cennnnnnntury!" was the cry that opened the radio versions of the classic America sci-fi adventure series, first created for a novella in "Amazing Stories" in 1928. Buck thus predates Flash Gordon by a good six years, which is why, I suppose, we sometimes consider crazy futuristic gadgets to be "Buck Rogers" and not "Flash Gordon." Buck took to the radio waves several times -- first in 1932 on CBS; then on the Mutual network in 1939, and a final time in 1946. The character also appeared in movie serials and TV shows.
