Detective Danny Clover patrolled New York's Broadway -- "from Times Square to Columbus Circle, the gaudiest, the most violent, the lonesomest mile in the world."
What a mile. These detective shows from the late 40s and early 50s reek with period atmosphere, from the Gershwinesque theme song by Alexander Courage (later to pen the "Star Trek" theme) to the broad, florid narration of Larry Thor as Detective Clover. On his beat he ran into everyone from the Broadway star to the bickering young couple to the just-arrived innocent....most of whom came to no good end, leaving Detective Clover and Sergeant Muggavan to sort out the details and look for any lessons to be learned.
